Kalėdinė Mugė 2017

It started with an idea …

For years, I had made and seen beautifully designed Lithuanian Easter eggs called margučiai. These intricate designs were transferred onto boiled eggs with beeswax and a pin. I started to think … what if these designs were utilized with other mediums and for other holidays? And that’s when I decided to take a chance on a new idea.

I went to my local arts and crafts store and purchased some sets of blank glass Christmas ornaments in a variety of colors. I took them home and after a quick inspection, I knew that they could be painted with the same designs that we use on margučiai. I can’t share all my secrets and techniques, but I can tell you that after some trial and error, I figured out the ideal method by which to add the designs to the glass ornaments.

I spent countless nights working on creating enough ornaments, with various colors and styles, so that I could participate in Los Angeles’ 2017 Kalėdinė Mugė. With the help and support of my wonderful partner, I set up in the playground of our Lithuanian church, and with other vendors, sold my wares to the local Lithuanian community.
